I Got Up (after On Kawara)

Stamps and Ink on Postcards, Approx. 4 x 6" each, 2008-15

Starting in 1968, On Kawara sent two postcards every day informing his friends of the time he got up. Each postcard depicts a scene from the place where Kawara woke up and was printed with the time Kawara arose, the date, Kawara's local return address, and the recipient's address. The postmark provides confirmation of the time and place.  I began my recreation of Kawara's project 40 years after he began, in September 2008, and continue to mail postcards (although I have not sent them every day since I began). You can view the complete set of I Got Up postcards from my 2015 Echoes project here.
