With his Wall Drawings, Sol LeWitt removed his hand from the production of his artwork. Instead, LeWitt provides instructions to hired draftsmen, who then execute the drawings. The drawings may be installed more than once, and will vary in appearance with each installation. I have copied several of LeWitt's Wall Drawings, following his instructions and working with the same materials used to create the "real" LeWitt drawings.
In an interview, LeWitt was once asked, "How would you feel if someone executed a wall drawing of yours without permission but with care to follow the instructions and in an appropriate site?" To which he replied, "OK... It would be authentic [and] it would be a compliment."
