- A + B Paintings
- (after Yoko Ono)
These paintings come from Ono’s series of instruction paintings, many of which were published in her 1964 book Grapefruit. Ono created several versions of A + B Painting, but the instruction paintings could be created by others or exist purely as language. The instructions for A + B Painting read in part, “Cut out a circle on canvas A. Place a numeral figure, a roman letter, or a katakana on canvas B on an arbitrary point. Place canvas A on canvas B and hang them together.”
