Metro

Acrylic on Wood Panel, 30 x 19", 1999

The design for metro is taken from the Metrocard, which is now a more common way of paying subway fare than the famous New York Subway Token. The shaped canvas and stripes to be reminiscent of 60's hard-edge paintings by artists like Frank Stella and Kenneth Noland. The small black dot in the blue band is actually a hole in the surface of the painting (Metrocards have a hole in the same location) which appears white when the painting is hung on a white wall.
