Christy’s

A Hug From The Art World, New York, 2019

Christy's opens on May 3rd, offering for sale Doeringer’s bootleg versions of the lots from the upcoming Christie's Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale. Christie’s states the Evening Sale, to be held May 15th, “features an exceptional selection of works by some of the most important names in 20th century art, alongside paintings by some of today’s most exciting contemporary artists,” and most works have estimates of several million dollars. Doeringer’s paintings will be offered for much less. As Christie’s announced the complete list of lots in the Evening Sale less than two weeks before the opening of Christy’s, this collaboration between Doeringer and A Hug From The Art World is one of the artist’s most ambitious undertakings yet.

“I like the idea that wholesale and retail is reversed and turned on its head. In this case we are selling retail art at wholesale prices and the auction house is selling second hand art at marked up prices.” – A  Hug From The Art World CEO.

"There is a huge difference between fake and bootleg. Fake is a product made by Gucci that another party made that is not authorized and not real. Bootleg is almost like fan art. Bootleg is somebody who took the idea of Gucci and the concepts of the name and the look and made their own product." – Slobby Robby

An 88-page full color catalog was published in conjunction with the exhibition.
